SCHOOL ON SPACE WEATHER
What is this all about?
Department of Science & Technology (SERC Division)
The DST-SERC School on “SPACE WEATHER” is one of this series of five SERC Schools in Atmospheric and Space Sciences. This school on “SPACE WEATHER” to be conducted at Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), Navi Mumbai during 7th-27th April 2010 aims to educate and motivate young talented research students from universities/colleges/institutions to take up research in areas related to “Space Weather”.
The Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, supports research and development in certain thrust areas of Atmospheric Sciences. The Program Advisory Committee on Atmospheric Sciences has recommended in view of the need to create wider interest among young scientists, that five SERC schools be held in different areas of Atmospheric and Space Sciences.
The conditions prevailing in the near space environment of our planet earth are influenced by the energy released from the Sun in a broad spectrum of electromagnetic radiations and particle emissions from the outer atmosphere of the Sun. “Space Weather” refers to conditions on the Sun, in interplanetary space and in geospace consisting of earth’s magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere, that can influence the performance of space-borne and ground based technological systems, and can endanger human life or health. During the last three decades, advancements in technology have provided opportunities to probe the ionosphere, magnetosphere and the solar variability much more effectively. At present, understanding the highly complex nature of solar–terrestrial interaction processes is a challenging area in Space Sciences. In this context, the topics to be covered during the school on “SPACE WEATHER” would be apt for creating awareness among young researchers about the current status of research in all these areas, which go into the making of SPACE WEATHER.

The International Symposium on Biocomputing(ISB 2010), in cooperation with the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) to be held in Calicut Kerala
International Symposium on Biocomputing
Organizing Institutes
1. National Institute of Technology Calicut, India
2. Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis, USA
The last decade has witnessed a spurt in life science research with the advent of high throughput instrumentation technologies. The staggering volume of data generated from different “omics” experiments has stymied integration of experimental procedures and computational activities. In the present global scientific arena, bioinformatics has thus evolved as a complementary tool to biologists, assisting in interpretation of experimental data and also providing important leads for further experimental research.
The International Symposium on Biocomputing, in cooperation with the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), invites researchers from computer science, life science and statistics areas to a common platform for exchanging ideas/hypotheses, to promote future collaborations towards the development of improved and highly efficient bioinformatics tools. The symposium is also expected to witness the initiation of multidisciplinary interactions which will eventually blur the boundaries between in vivo, in vitro and in silico analytical procedures and thus help to gain deeper understanding of macromolecular interactions which ultimately define any biological system.
Keynote speaker
ISB 2010 is proud to announce the Keynote speaker for the Symposium, , Prof. Eric Jakobsson PhD, Professor of Molecular and Integrative Physiology, Biophysics, Bioengineering and Neuroscience at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Important Dates
Paper submission:CLOSED
Author registration and Early Registration for Participants : December 15 2009
Participants can register after December 15th also until further notice, with higher registration fees as indicated in the website's registration page.
Conference:15-17th February 2010
Venue
The symposium will be conducted at the Kadavu Resort, Calicut, Kerala, India
