Applications are invited for the ‘Young Researcher Award – 2010’

This Scheme is instituted by the Lady Tata Memorial Trust (LTMT) to annually recognize and reward young Indian scientists with outstanding track record in biological sciences, with a deep commitment to find innovative solutions to major problems related to human diseases and potential for high quality research. Applicant should have publications in well recognized peer reviewed journals of repute and contributed to knowledge generation that has created significant impact in the field of translational possibilities.

Scope
All areas of Life Sciences and Biotechnology related to human diseases will be covered by this Award.

Who Can Apply?
(i) The Award is open to Indian Nationals who are below the age of 40 years, and who have
displayed a potential for high quality research.

(ii) The applicant should possess a Ph.D. degree in any Biological Science or a Master’s degree in Medical Sciences, or an equivalent degree in Biotechnology related areas. The applicant must have at least 4 years professional experience in the specific area after obtaining the above degree.

(iii) The applicant must have a regular position in an Indian University/Organization/Institute and
should be engaged in research and development. The awardee will be eligible for regular
research grants through extramural and other research schemes of various S&T agencies of the
Government of India. Applicants currently working abroad may apply provided that they have
confirmed placement in an Institute in India.

Award Details
The amount of the Award will be Rs 10,000 per month in addition to regular salary from the host
institute. In addition, the awardee will receive a contingency grant of Rs 5.00 lakhs per annum for
meeting the expenses on consumables, minor equipment, international and domestic travel,
manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of
research project under the Award.

Postdoctoral openings for Indo French funded project at Unité de Catalyse et de Chimie du Solide (UCCS), University of Lille, France | Collabration with TERI, New Delhi

What is this all about?
Postdoctoral opening for 2 years is available for Indian Ph.D. graduates under a project funded by Indo–French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research/Centre Franco-Indien pour la Promotion
de La Recherche Avancée (IFCPRA/CEFIPRA).

Project Details:
The project involves waste derived activated carbon supported catalyst for low temperature VOC oxidation. The position will be at Unité de Catalyse et de Chimie du Solide (UCCS), University of Lille, France in collaboration with TERI, India.

Who Can Apply?
The candidate should have a Ph.D. degree (graduation after 2006) or should be submitting the
1. Ph.D. thesis by April 2010.
2. Prior experience in waste derived catalysts and VOC oxidation will be preferable.
3. The candidate should have an outstanding academic record, team working skills and good communication skills.

Short Term Training on Molecular Markers at University of Pune | DBT-sponsored training course

What is this all about?
Short Term Training Course on ‘Molecular Markers and their Applications in Plant Sciences’ The Department of Botany, University of Pune will be organizing a DBT-sponsored training course for mid-career scientists involved in undergraduate teaching in Life-Sciences and Biotechnology from 2nd February
to 22rd February 2010.

The course would consist of one lecture by Guest faculty drawn from reputed research institutes in the country and will be followed by a practicals/hands-on session per day.

Who Can Apply?
Candidates below 45 years of age, holding regular positions in Colleges or Research Institutes may
apply for this course. The applicants would have to be sponsored by their own Institutions.
