IITM Summer Fellowship Programme 2010

The IITM Summer Fellowship Programme of two months with stipend is designed to enhance awareness and interest in high quality academic research among young Engineering, Management, Sciences and Humanities students through a goal oriented summer miniproject undertaken at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.

Who Can Apply?
Candidates pursuing third year of B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc. (Engg)/Integrated M.E./M.Tech. programme, first year of M.Sc. with outstanding academic background in terms of high ranks in university examinations, papers presented at seminars, projects executed, design contests participated, score/rank in Mathematics Olympiad and any other awards/distinctions obtained, are encouraged to apply.

Period of the Project:
The contact period for the project will be two months normally during 17 th May‐ 16 th July 2010. However depending on the convenience, the selected candidates can undertake the project at any time subject to the availability of faculty.

Stipend: A sum of Rs.6,500/‐ (maximum) will be given as a stipend for a total period of 2 months.

Summer School in Astronomy and Astrophysics at IUCAA | Inter University Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics

What is this all about?
Summer School in Astronomy and Astrophysics  at IUCAA, Pune

Duration
The summer school for students will be held for five weeks during May-June of every even-numbered year. It is designed to introduce students to the exciting fields of astronomy and astrophysics (A+A). No previous knowledge of A+A is necessary, though familiarity with the basic principles of mathematics and physics is required.

We expect to have about 35 students in the programme. The school will consist of lectures covering the fundamentals of A+A as well as recent developments in the field. In addition, participants will take part in individual projects under suitable guidance. The lecturers for the school will be drawn from the leading A+A centres in India. There is a possibility for a few motivated students to spend an additional week at IUCAA after the school.

Who Can Apply?
Students completing their first year of MSc or third year of BTech may apply. Exceptionally bright and motivated students completing their BSc in physics may also apply.

To apply, write on plain paper your 1. name, 2. sex, 3, date of birth, 4. address for communication, 5. qualifications (standard X onwards) with institution/year/subjects/class/grade/percentage of marks, 6. short write-up giving motivation for applying, 7. previous summer schools attended (if any), 8. names and addresses of two referees (who should be teachers, project guides, etc.), and 9. signature with date.

University of Pune | Interdisciplinary School of Scientific Computing Entrance Exam for M.Sc in Scientific Computing



What is this all about?
MSc Scientific Computing : Interdisciplinary School of Scientific Computing will be conducting the Entrance Exam for Admission

Who Can Apply?
50% at B.C.S./B.Sc. (Computer Science) (40% for Reserved categories) with all Computer Science Subject in last year and Maths upto Second year
OR
50% at B.E (Computer Science/ IT /E and TC ) (40% for Reserved categories)

Those appearing for final examination may also apply. In case of candidates obtaining equal aggregate marks at entrance examination preference will be given to candidates performing better upto final exam.50% admissions are reserved for SC/ST/NT/DT/OBC categories and 3% for physically handicapped (as per Govt. rules).

Applications and Selection Procedures
The admissions are done purely on basis of merit in Entrance Exam, which is conducted once a year.

Date of Exam : 7th Feb 2010 from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Nature of the Entrance Examination
The test will be of 2 hours with approximately equal weightage to the following 4 topics. All questions will be with multiple choice questions.
1) Logical ability
2) Elementary mathematical skills including Calculus, Linear algebra, Graph plotting, Combinatorial analysis, etc.
3) Computer fundamentals and C-programming.
4) English
