Briefing about the Admission Process
The Banaras Hindu University will hold All India COMPETITIVE WRITTEN TEST for admission to MBBS course (84 seats) in TWO stages: PMT-2010 SCREENING and PMT-2010 MAIN, and for BDS (38 seats), BAMS (78 seats) and B. Pharm. (33 seats) courses in ONE stage: PMT-2010 Screening. PMT-2010 SCREENING shall be held on Wednesday, the 12th May 2010 at Varanasi, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad Centres, to screen candidates for eligibility to appear in PMT-2010 MAIN examination for MBBS course which will be held on Sunday, the 13th June 2010 at Varanasi Centre only. For BDS/BAMS/B.Pharm. courses, candidates will be selected on the basis of their merit in the PMT-2010 SCREENING only.

DISTRIBUTION OF SEATS: M.B.B.S.(84 seats) : General - 42; OBC – 23; SC – 13 and ST – 6; BDS (38 seats): General – 19; OBC – 10; SC – 6 and ST – 3; BAMS (78 seats) : General – 36; Foreign National – 3; OBC – 21; SC – 12 and ST – 6; B.Pharm. (33 seats): General – 17; OBC – 9; SC – 5 and ST – 2. Three percent seats are reserved for Physically Challenged (PC) candidates in all the categories of the above courses.

Who Can Apply?
Passed Intermediate, 10+2 or equivalent examination in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Zoology + Botany) taken together; (i) For MBBS/BDS/BAMS – a minimum of 50% for General, OBC and respective PC candidates and 40% aggregate marks for SC/ST and respective PC candidates; (ii) For B.Pharm. – a minimum of 60% marks for General, OBC and respective PC candidates and 55% aggregate marks for SC/ST and respective PC candidates. Candidates appearing in qualifying examination may also apply.

Age: Completed 17 years but not crossed 25 years as on 31st December, 2010 (Candidates born after 1st January, 1994 and on or before 31st December, 1985 need not apply).

INDIAN COUNCIL OF MEDICAL RESEARCH | ICMR International Research fellowships for Young and Senior Scientists

What is this all About?
The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) invites applications from Indian biomedical scientists for the international fellowships for the year 2010-11.

Number of fellowships: Young scientists-12; Senior scientists-6

Duration: 3-6 months for young scientists and 10-15 days for senior scientists

Eligibility:
· M.D/PhD degree with at least three years teaching/research experience for young scientists and at least fifteen years teaching/research experience for senior scientists.
· Regular position in a recognized biomedical/research/health institution in India .
· Below 45 years of age for young and 55 years for senior scientists.

Financial support:
US $ 2400 per month, contingency grant of Rs.15,000/- and return economy class air ticket (excursion airfare) for young scientists. US $ 160 per day (including US$ 75 as per diem and rest for accommodation expenses) and return economy class air ticket (excursion airfare) for senior scientists.

 The applicant should submit a letter of acceptance from the foreign Institute where he/ she proposes to work along with a concrete plan of training / research work to be undertaken during the fellowship.
- Recommendation by the Head of the parent organization / institute is essential.
- Incomplete applications will not be entertained.
- Decision of ICMR will be final.
- If selected, the fellowship is to be availed before 28th February, 2011.

Short Term Studentship Program | STS 2010 Announced for Under Graduate Medical Students by ICMR


What is this all about?
Short Term Studentship Program 2010 by The Indian Council of Medical Research.
On behalf of Dr VM Katoch, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research and Secretary, Department of Health Research, applications are invited from interested undergraduate medical students to participate in the STS 2010 Program.

About the Program
The Indian Council of Medical Research initiated the Short Term Studentship Program in 1979 in order to promote interest and aptitude for research among medical undergraduates. The main objective of this program is to provide an opportunity to undergraduate medical students to familiarize themselves with research methodology and techniques by being associated for a short duration with their seniors on ongoing research program or by undertaking independent projects. This may serve as an incentive for them to take up research as a career in the future. The Institution must provide the student with all facilities for carrying out research.

During the last 30 years, medical undergraduate students of various medical colleges in the country have shown keen interest in Council’s Short Term Research Studentship program. The Council has decided to continue this program by awarding limited number of studentships to deserving undergraduate students during the vacation for the year 2010.

The value of the studentship will be Rs. 2500/- per month for 2 months’ duration and is meant to be a stipend for the student.

Selection and execution details
1.The selection of the candidates for award of research studentship will be done after technical evaluation of the research plan by a panel of experts. About 500 students will be selected.

2.The results will be displayed on ICMR website in April 2010.

3.No sanction letters will be issued individually to the students/ guide. The students should print out the results from the website for future reference. Upto 25 students may be selected from any medical college.

4. The selected student is expected to complete the project in any two given months between April and September 2010 and submit the report before the last date of submission. The detailed guidance on this will be available at the time the results are declared. The students will be awarded stipend and certificate only if their report is approved.
