The Institute invites applications from Indian nationals for the post of “Research Associate / Senior Research Fellow” under the research scheme titled “HIGH PERFORMANCE POLYMERIC FLOCCULANTS FOR WASTE WATER & INDUSTRIAL EFFLUENT TREATMENT BASED ON MODIFIED POLYSACCHARIDES” (Emeritus Scientist CSIR) to be carried out at IISER Pune upto 7th July 2011.

Post (No of Post): Research Associate / Senior Research Fellow(1)

1) Qualification Required for Research Associate (R.A.). :
i. The minimum qualification is Ph.D. in Polymer Science / Chemistry / Technology or equivalent degree..
ii. Having minimum 3 years of research and development experience after M.Tech. in Polymer Science / Chemistry / Technology / Engineering.
Emoluments for R.A.: Rs. 16,000/- (Rupees Sixteen Thousand Only) per month + HRA @ 20% as per
CSIR norms.

Tenure of the Post: Upto 7th July 2011.

Age for R.A.: 35 (Shall not exceed as on the closing date of advertisement)

2) Qualification required for Senior Research Fellow (S.R.F.)
i. M.Sc. [Organic Chemistry / Polymer Chemistry / Polymer Science] or B. Tech. in Polymer Science / Engineering / Technology with minimum 60% marks.
ii. Having at least 2 years of post M.Sc. or B.Tech. research experience as evidenced from published papers in standard referred journals
iii. M.E. / M. Tech in Polymer Science / Engineering / Technology
Emoluments for S.R.F.: Rs. 14,000/- (Rupees Fourteen Thousand Only) per month + HRA @ 20% as
per CSIR norms

Senior Research Fellow(1) and Lab Assistant(1) positions in Genetic Engineering in ICMR funded project at NIPGR , New Delhi


What is this all about?
Applications are invited from suitable candidates for filling up one position each of Senior Research Fellow (SRF) and Lab Assistant (LA) in the ICMR funded research project entitled 'Genetic engineering of vegetable and legume crops with oxalate decarboxylase gene for removal of oxalic acid on antinutritional stress factor for better human nutrition' of Dr. Subhra Chakraborty, Scientist, NIPGR.
 
Tenure: The above mentioned position is completely on temporary basis and is co-terminus with the project. The initial appointment will be for a period of one year, but can be curtailed or extended based on the performance of the candidate and discretion of the Competent Authority.

Who Can Apply?
a) Candidates having good academic record with M.Sc. degree (Minimum 55%) in Botany / Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Life Sciences or any other related field with two years post-M.Sc. research experience are eligible to apply. Research experience in Plant Genomics and Genetic Engineering will be given preference.

b) Candidates must posses B.Sc. degree with minimum of 4 years experience in any government R&D laboratory, University, Institute or M.Sc. with one year research experience in Plant Sciences, Biochemistry, Life Sciences, Biotechnology or related field are eligible to apply. Research experience in Molecular Biology and Plant Genomics will be given preference.

Emoluments:  The emoluments for both the positions will be given as per sanction order of the project.

About PRL
PHYSICAL RESEARCH LABORATORY (PRL) is an autonomous institution under the Department of Space and was established in 1947. The current areas of research at PRL are Astronomy and Astrophysics, Geosciences, Planetary Sciences and Exploration, Space and Atmospheric Sciences, Experimental Laser and Atomic Physics and Theoretical Physics. It has two campuses at Ahmedabad and astronomical and solar observatories at Mt. Abu and Udaipur respectively.

Ph.D. students at PRL, referred to as Research Scholars, take courses in the first year and then start their research with a guide. Research scholars are awarded a Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for the first two years, and subsequently a Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) for the remaining three years.

Who Can Apply?
M.Sc. in one of the following subjects: Physics, Space Sciences, Atmospheric Sciences, Chemistry (Physical, Nuclear / Analytical), Geology, Geophysics and Ocean Sciences. A minimum of 60% marks at the Bachelor’s and Master’s level is required for all candidates. Those appearing for
Master’s Degree examination in 2010 may also apply.

Age: Not more than 25 years as on 31.12.2009. This may be relaxed for exceptional candidates.

Area of Research
Planetary Exploration, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Solar Physics, Planetary & Geosciences, Space
and Atmospheric Sciences, Experimental Laser & Atomic Physics and Theoretical Physics. Further

Fellowship
Stipend and Facilities: Rs. 12,000/- per month, raised to Rs. 14,000/- per month after two years, subject
to satisfactory academic review; a book grant of Rs. 7500/- per year; and accommodation at a nominal
charge. Students may also be supported for attending conferences abroad, once during their tenure. In
addition, all expenses connected with registration for Ph.D., Viva, application fees, registration fees,
tuition fees, examination fees etc. are to be borne by the institute.

Selection Procedure
Written test, followed by personal interview for those who qualify in the written test. These will be held at the PRL main campus at Ahmedabad. Written test may be waived for candidates with good academic record and who have qualified and in any of the following:
(i) JEST-2010 (ii) GATE (in Physics / Geophysics) 2009/2010, (iii) UGC-CSIR NET in 2008/2009 in Subject Code–1: Chemical Sciences, or Subject Code–2: Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, or
Subject Code–5: Physical Sciences.

A photocopy of the JEST/GATE/NET result must accompany the application, if applicable. If the NET
certificate is not available a copy of the admit card and a print-out of the online results with the candidate’s roll number circled should be sent.

Short-listed candidates called for written test/interview will be paid II-class return train fare by the shortest route and per diem as per existing PRL rules.
