What is this all about?
National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa, a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, New Delhi in collaboration with BD Biosciences is organizing a one day symposium on 'Applications of Flow Cytometry in Marine Biology' on 8 April 2010.
Flow cytometry continues to contribute to the knowledge of aquatic prokaryotes (bacteria & archaea) and phytoplankton. These organisms are key components of marine environment because of their diversity, abundance and the large variety of metabolic activities. Flow cytometry is an important tool in their analyses. It improves our understanding of the heterogeneity of cell populations and helps to elucidate their functional role. Further, cell studies can also be extended to genome analysis.
This symposium, the first of its kind in India, will be addressed by renowned marine flow cytometry scientist,
Prof. Dr. Ger Van Den Engh (University of Washington, Seattle & BD, USA).
Recent developments in flow cytometry will be covered by Dr. Gopal Pande (Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Hyderabad, India)
and Dr. John Wotherspoon (BD, Australia).
