About Infosys Science Foundation and Infosys Prize
The Infosys Science Foundation is a not-for-profit trust which was set up in February 2009 by the management of Infosys. The Foundation announced Infosys Prize, an annual award, to honor outstanding achievements of researchers and scientists across five categories:
Engineering and Computer Science,
Mathematical Sciences,
Life Sciences,
Physical Sciences
and Social Sciences (Social Anthropology and Sociology).
A jury
The winners will receive a prize of INR 50 Lakh, along with a pure gold medallion and a citation certificate.
This year the winners in the respective categories are:
Engineering and Computer Science: Professor Ashutosh Sharma, Chemical Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur
Mathematical Sciences: Professor Chandrashekhar Khare, Mathematics Department, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Los Angeles
Life Sciences: Dr. Chetan E. Chitnis, Principal Leader, Malaria Group, International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Delhi
Physical Sciences: Professor Sandip Trivedi, Theoretical Physics Department, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai
Social Sciences - Social Anthropology: Professor Amita Baviskar, Sociology Unit, Institute of Economic Growth (IEG), Delhi
Social Sciences – Sociology: Professor Nandini Sundar, Sociology Department, Delhi School of Economics (DSE), Delhi
Winners will be felicitated in January 2011 by Dr. Manmohan Singh at a prize ceremony in Mumbai
