JAWAHARLAL NEHRU UNIVERSITY
NEW DELHI
Jawaharlal Nehru University has been granted funds by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Govt. of India to initiate an Inter-School programme in JNU to strengthen training and research called
"DBT-Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-Interdisciplinary Life Science Programme for Advanced Research and education" with the broad project area entitled "From Molecules to Systems: Exploring biological space using chemical and synthetic biology" cutting across Physical, Chemical and Biological Sciences.
Applications are invited for the following purely temporary posts at various levels in the various Group projects for Research, Technical, laboratory and office management positions. The project is upto March
2017, but the appointments shall be initially for a period of one year, renewable every year depending on the performance of project staff:
Group 1: A) Project title: Studying Plant Immunity
Position: Postdoctoral Fellow-Organic Chemistry (1)
Qualifications: Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry with experience in separation techniques including HPLC, GC-MS and experience in analytical characterization of organic samples by IR, UV-visible, NMR
and Mass spectroscopy.
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to synthesize chemical analogues, inject them in some parts of the plants and then study the mobility, stability and role in potentiating plant's immune response including infection memory formation. The research work will involve synthesis of chemical analogues of small organic molecules and study of their role in inducing plant immune responses. Several small organic molecules are reported to be potential mobile signal that are generated upon pathogen infection in plants, move throughout plants body and help in generation of infection memory in plants.
(Investigators: Dr. Ashis K. Nandi, School of Life Sciences and Dr. Pritam Mukhopadhyay, School of Physical Sciences).
Salary: Rs. 26400/- pm consolidated
B) Project title: Mechanism of regulation of fungal infection
