Department of Meteorology and Oceanography Andhra University, Visakhapatnam
Invites Nominations/Applications for the SERC SCHOOL ON OCEAN–ATMOSPHERE INTERACTIONS AND GLOBAL CHANGE (Sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology) during 14 July 2010 to 3 August 2010
The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India promotes R and D programs in newly emerging and challenging areas of science and engineering through its Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC). In order to create research interest and to generate trained manpower in the areas of Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences a SERC School will be conducted on ‘Ocean–Atmosphere Interactions and Global Change’ at the Department of Meteorology and Oceanography, Andhra University,
Visakhapatnam. The school is expected to provide an excellent background to research students/university and college lecturers for understanding the oceanic and atmospheric processes that affect global climate in
general. The course contents will cover all aspects of ocean atmospheric interactions including operational experience, theory, modelling and instrumentation for observation. The School aims to provide necessary
wherewithal to all researchers who intend to work in the forthcoming national projects on ocean atmospheric interactions.
Topics to be covered: Broadly it will cover the following topics:
• Physics of Ocean–Atmosphere Interactions
• Dynamics of Oceanic–Atmospheric Processes
• Measurement and Estimation of Ocean–Atmospheric Exchange Fluxes
• Fundamentals of Modelling in Ocean–Atmospheric Processes
• Role of Oceans on Monsoon and Climate Variability
• Ocean Bio-geochemical Processes and Climate Change
• Satellite Remote Sensing of Air–Sea Interaction Processes
• Effects of Global Warming on Regional Climate Change
Faculty: Experts with research/teaching experience from premier universities and other educational institutes, advanced research centres and other organizations involved in areas relevant to Atmospheric
and Ocean Sciences.
Age limit: 35 years and below (relaxable for sponsored candidates and for certain special categories) as on 1 July 2010.
Minimum qualification: M.Sc./M.Tech. in Atmospheric Science/Meteorology/Oceanography/Physics/Mathematics/B.Tech./B.E. in Civil Engineering/Environmental Sciences. The prospective candidates should be attached to a university department or a research laboratory in some capacity and their application should be forwarded by the Head of the department/division. Priority will be given to doctoral students,post-doctoral fellows, lecturers and other candidates nominated by operational agencies/research institutes.
Application: Last date for receipt of completed application forms is 30 April 2010. All the selected candidates will be intimated about their selection with other necessary details by 15 May 2010 by e-mail/ post. The selected candidates will be available on the websites.
