IITM Pune Opportunities for Job Linked Training and Faculty Positions | Training Program Offered for M.Sc/Engineering Students with a monthly stipend of 25,000/-
Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, India
OPPORTUNITIES FOR JOB LINKED TRAINING AND FACULTY POSITIONS
CENTRE FOR ADVANCED TRAINING IN EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCES AND CLIMATE
(A Program of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), Govt. of India at IITM, Pune)
One of the greatest challenges of practical importance is the useful prediction of monsoon on weather and climate time scales. To address the problem of paucity of skilled scientific manpower required for improving the quality of weather and climate forecasts in the country, the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) is embarking on a world class training program in the field of Earth System Sciences and Climate with a view to understand the science of climate variability and change and to build capacity to make world class weather and climate forecasts with particular focus on the Indian monsoon. A large pool of trained and dedicated climate and earth system modelers is proposed to be created through this program. In depth hands-on expertise building on individual physical processes of the land, ocean, atmosphere, biosphere and cryosphere is envisaged. The program, however, will go beyond the conventional training on individual systems and address weather and climate as processes arising from interactions between the component systems. The Centre will have its own campus with all training and other infrastructural facilities. In addition to the already available advanced facilities /systems at IITM and other institutions of MoES, advanced High Performance Computing facility and other state-of-the-art infrastructure for scientific research will be made available for the Centre.

Conference | Hands on Training | Education Day on Proteomics Research at CCMB , Hyderabad
About the Event
Proteomics has emerged as an important discipline to understand the function of genes, in terms of proteins that maintain normal cellular functions and so the human health. New Proteomics technologies/approaches for the study of protein dynamics are continuously evolving. With a range of potential applications of Proteomics, from basic biology to drug target discovery or discovery of diagnostic biomarkers, there is exponential growth of information. Yet, the technologies offer a challenge for their optimal use in a given biological context.
The AOHUPO (Asia Oceania Human Proteome Organization) is dedicated to fostering proteomic initiatives and efforts internationally and regionally. AOHUPO organizes biannual Proteomics Conference in the AO region. ADNAT (Association for the Promotion of DNA Finger Printing and Associated DNA Technologies) is an Indian organization managed by scientists and science thinkers from various biology disciplines, is recognized for its Annual Conventions, in India, on Contemporary Topics in Biology and associated Hands-on Training Program. It has chosen Proteomics as the theme chosen for its 2010 Meeting. Proteomics Society, India is a recently formed forum of the Indian Proteomics community that has fast grown to a critical size in recent years. It plans to pursue a strong mandate for promoting education and research in Proteomics in India through educational workshops, discussions and collaborative interactions. It is a relational Society under AOHUPO. It is with this synergy, the three organizations are jointly hosting this event.
The joint event will bring in world experts to share their experiences, regional and Indian scientists to show-case their efforts in Proteomic research and exchange ideas, and young research students to update with the current advances and the fascinating potential of Proteomics Research.

DST-SERC school/training on "SPACE WEATHER" to be conducted at Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), Navi Mumbai
SCHOOL ON SPACE WEATHER
What is this all about?
Department of Science & Technology (SERC Division)
The DST-SERC School on “SPACE WEATHER” is one of this series of five SERC Schools in Atmospheric and Space Sciences. This school on “SPACE WEATHER” to be conducted at Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (IIG), Navi Mumbai during 7th-27th April 2010 aims to educate and motivate young talented research students from universities/colleges/institutions to take up research in areas related to “Space Weather”.
The Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India, supports research and development in certain thrust areas of Atmospheric Sciences. The Program Advisory Committee on Atmospheric Sciences has recommended in view of the need to create wider interest among young scientists, that five SERC schools be held in different areas of Atmospheric and Space Sciences.
The conditions prevailing in the near space environment of our planet earth are influenced by the energy released from the Sun in a broad spectrum of electromagnetic radiations and particle emissions from the outer atmosphere of the Sun. “Space Weather” refers to conditions on the Sun, in interplanetary space and in geospace consisting of earth’s magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere, that can influence the performance of space-borne and ground based technological systems, and can endanger human life or health. During the last three decades, advancements in technology have provided opportunities to probe the ionosphere, magnetosphere and the solar variability much more effectively. At present, understanding the highly complex nature of solar–terrestrial interaction processes is a challenging area in Space Sciences. In this context, the topics to be covered during the school on “SPACE WEATHER” would be apt for creating awareness among young researchers about the current status of research in all these areas, which go into the making of SPACE WEATHER.
