Experimental Astronomy. We are seeking individuals with a passion for design and development of specialized and purpose-built systems and software for pursuing frontline research on topical issues in modern astrophysics – individuals who wish a career in hands-on experimental astronomy using engineering and software skills along with a deep understanding of astronomy methods and astrophysics – to take
leadership roles in defining and pursuing the problems of tomorrow. Members of the Astronomy & Astrophysics group of the Institute have engaged in research building new and innovative radio telescopes in India and overseas, and built specialized receivers for international telescope facilities, which open and
explore new windows to our understanding of astrophysical phenomena. The engineering skills required for such activities include Signal and Image Processing, Antennas, Low-noise microwave receivers, High-speed analog and digital data transmission and processing, and Real-time and applications software. The group
also develops X-ray instruments for astronomical observations from space. Working in remote regions across the world is essential today in astronomy owing to radio frequency interference and light pollution; therefore, we seek individuals with an ability and eagerness for exploration and travel and working with teams in remote locations.
Positions and Remuneration: A maximum of two candidates will be selected for appointment as RESEARCH ASSOCIATES in the Pay Band of Rs.15,600-39,100 with Grade Pay of Rs.5,400 (plus allowances as applicable to Central Government employees);

eligibility for applying for positions at this scale is First class B.E. / B. Tech / M.E. / M. Tech degree in Electronics & Communication / Computer Science, Engineering Physics or equivalent.
Separately, a maximum of two candidates may be selected for appointment as RESEARCH SCIENTISTS in the Pay Band of Rs.15,600-39,100 with Grade Pay of Rs.6,600 (plus allowances as applicable to Central Government employees);

eligibility for applying for this position is a PhD in Physics, Astronomy, Electronics or Signal Processing.
The current total emoluments at the minimum of these scales are about Rs.38,970/- and Rs.46,148/- respectively for the two positions open.

Candidates with relevant experience and/or with a higher qualification would be considered for appropriate
higher starting salary. Reservations are applicable as per rules and there will be a two-year probationary period in all cases.
