The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology is an autonomous research organization fully funded by Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi. It is a premier Institute, devoted to research in various aspects of atmospheric sciences, with emphasis on tropical meteorology, particularly on the Climate change and Indian Monsoon. Its
activities include training to post graduates and motivate them to take up research careers in atmospheric and oceanic sciences required to improve prediction skill of weather and climate. The institute has a strong training program for post graduate students to help build their careers in atmospheric sciences. The Institute also has excellent infrastructural facilities and has MoU with University of Pune. It has strong links with other
Universities and national and international organizations. Applications are invited for two junior research fellows initially for one year period under a sponsored project with BRNS/IGCAR. Study involves numerical

It is a premier Institute of national and international repute, devoted to research in various aspects ofatmospheric sciences with emphasis on tropical meteorology, particularly on the Climate change and Indian Monsoon. Its activitiesinclude training to post graduates and motivate them to take up research careers in atmospheric and oceanic sciences required to improve prediction skill of weather and climate. A Centre for Climate Change Research (CCCR) has been established at IITM. To cater to the modelling needs, a High Performance Computing Centre has been set up and a HPC with 7.2 TF has been installed. For CCCR, the capacity of HPC is being upgraded to 70 TF. The Institute also has excellent infra-structural facilities and has MoU with University of Pune. It has strong links with other Universities and national and international organizations.

IITM Research Associates – 10 positions (1 for Orthopaedic handicapped and 9 for general category)

Qualifications/Essential : A doctorate degree of a recognized University in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, Oceanography, Physics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Geology or Geophysics with Meteorology as subject. Well acquainted in computer programming Linux etc.)

Those candidates who have submitted Ph.D. thesis to the University are eligible to apply.

Desirable Qualifications : Demonstrated computer programming linux, Unix, Windows / Fortran/C etc.

Age Limit : 35 years as on 1.1.2010

Stipend: Rs. 16000/- plus admissible HRA;

Tenure: One year

IITM Research Fellows 10 Fellowships (one reserved for visually handicapped, one for hearing handicapped and 8 for general candidates)

Qualifications
Essential : A good Master’s degree in Meteorology, oceanography, Atmospheric Sciences, Physics, Applied Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Geology or Geophysics with Meteorology as subject. The students qualified CSIR/UGC/National Eligibility test or GATE are eligible to apply. The students with M.Tech. (Atmospheric Sciences) are eligible to apply. The M.Sc. students not qualified in the CSIR/UGC National Eligibility Test or GATE tests but working in the sponsored projects at the Institute are also eligible to apply. Candidates appeared for final year M.Tech. can apply for the post but their appointment is subject to having passed the M.Tech. examination as evidenced by mark sheets/provisional degree certificate. Selected candidates are required to complete Ph.D. under the guidance of the scientists of the Institute.

Desirable: Demonstrated computer programming Linux, Unix, Windows/Fortran/C etc.

Age Limit : 28 years as on 1.1.2010; c) Stipend ; Rs. 12000/- plus admissible HRA

Tenure: 4 years. The candidate should register for Ph.D.

Selected candidates would be required to undergo an in-house training in Meteorology, which is a qualifying test for registering for Ph.Ds.Upper age limit is relaxable as per rules for SC/ST/OBC/Physically handicapped and ex-servicemen candidates.
