Howdy then what are stem cells…..
What are Stem Cells?
Stem cells are the primal cells or basic cells of the body. The different cell types within the body say liver cells, brain cells, nerve cells etcs all are derived and can be derived from these cells . Stem cells are undifferentiated, "blank" cells that do not yet have a specific function. Characteristically, stem cells have a high capacity for self-renewal. This feature permits their continuous culture under laboratory conditions.
Stem cells have the unique ability to differentiate into a variety of cells. When a stem cell divides, each new cell has the potential to either remain a stem cell or become another type of cell with a more specialized function - such as a muscle cell, a red blood cell or a nerve cell.
Given the right environment, stem cells can give rise to a number of tissues that constitute different organs. Also serving as a kind of repair system for the body, stem cells can divide repeatedly and then differentiate and replenish cells within the body. They have the potential for providing cells and tissues to treat various debilitating, life-threatening diseases.
Stem cells can be derived from various sources such as the bone marrow, embryos obtained by in vitro fertilization, amniotic fluid and umbilical cord blood.

Good info .. now why and how does LifeCell store this blood.
Why ??
When an organ is degenerating, the cells break down and lose their ability to function. Stem cell therapy is an amazing modern medical advancement that goes straight to the source of the problem—damage on the cellular level. Stem cell therapy is a procedure by which damaged, diseased, or malfunctioning cells anywhere in the body are replaced by introducing healthy stem cells to that area of the body. Stem cell therapy is a promising treatment for all kinds of degenerative diseases because of the stem cells’ regenerative abilities. It is anticipated that virtually any tissue many be amenable to cellular Levels. Many degenerative diseases like Alzheimer's Disease, Atherosclerosis, Diabetes, Heart Disease, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid Arthritis are undergoing several hundred clinical trials for effective stem cell therapy in very near future.

Traditionally discarded as after-birth, umbilical cord blood is a rich source of multi-potent stem cells that have proven useful in treating various types of diseases. One of the familiar treatments using stem cell research is the bone marrow transplant (specifically hematopoietic cell therapy). A new type of stem cell therapy (specifically mesenchymal cell therapy) has come on the scene in recent years for replacement of damaged or diseased tissues and organs and also for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
Some more info….. The first umbilical cord blood transplant was performed in 1988 in France, which successfully treated a 5-year old boy with Fanconi's Anaemia. To date there have been more than 10,000 umbilical cord blood stem cell transplants reported worldwide.
How ?
How ?
Umbilical cord blood is collected soon after birth and stored in a stem cell bank like LifeCell(.Find below how LifeCell stem cell bank preserves it) where stem cells are harvested from the cord blood and cryo-preserved at -196oC under highly controlled environments.
These samples are stored in a storage facility which is an earth quake and flood resistant building. A fitted Central Monitoring system monitors the temperature, humidity and pressure, 24*7 to ensure a controlled environment as required for current good manufacturing practices and current good laboratory practices.

Cord blood, also called “placental blood”, is blood that remains in the umbilical cord and placenta following the birth of a baby. There are many such service providers like Cordlife India, Cyrocell and LifeCell. Umbilical cord bank is the best option to make!
