The Association of Indian Universities has taken up a pioneering initiative to organize student research conventions for the aspiring researchers throughout the country. These conventions aim at identifying the young and rising talents who would be promoted through proper encouragement and incentives. Also an attempt shall be made to commercialize their research projects with industrial collaboration. The endeavor may accelerate scientific research and innovation and their application towards community development percolating to the grassroot level.

An applicant possessing the following qualifications in appropriate area shall be eligible to apply for admission for Ph.D. programme of the Institute. Masters degree in Engineering / Technology/Architecture/Urban & Rural Planning/Sciences/ Humanities & Social Sciences and Management in respective discipline or equivalent with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent as determined by the Institute wherever letter grades are awarded; or 60% marks in aggregate (of all the years/ semesters) where marks are awarded.
OR
Applicants with B.Tech./B.Arch. degree or equivalent in respective discipline with excellent academic record (with a minimum CGPA of 7.00 on a 10 point scale or equivalent or 70% marks) may be considered eligible for admission. Applicants for admission for full-time studies who do not possess a M.Tech./M.Arch./MURP degree or equivalent in the relevant field must have a valid GATE score (at least 75 percentile) for Engineering / Technology/ Science disciplines or must have qualified national level fellowship examinations such as NET (JRF/LS) conducted by UGC/CSIR for Science/ Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines.
Engineering/Architecture graduates from any IIT/erstwhile University of Roorkee having CGPA Score > 8.00 or marks > 80% are also eligible for admission without GATE score .

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP
A limited number of fellowships are available to carry out advanced research in all the disciplines as mentioned above. Interested candidates having a Ph.D. Degree may apply for Post-Doctoral Fellowship in all the disciplines mentioned above. Qualification: Candidates with a Ph.D. degree in Science, Engineering, Humanities or Management with first class in the degree preceeding to Ph.D. with at least two publications in refereed journals. Candidates who have recently submitted their doctoral thesis are also eligible to apply subject to the condition that they will furnish the proof of award of Ph.D. degree at the time of interview.
Age limit: 35 years. The age limit may be relaxed in exceptional case.
Duration : 2 years (renewable for one more year). Fellowship : (i) Rs. 25,000/- p.m. for a Ph.D. with 2 years
experience (ii) Rs. 20,000/- p.m. for a recent Ph.D. degree holder. Contingency : Rs. 20,000/- per annum.

Research Associates selected under the prestigious KSKRA programme are given an opportunity to work on R&D programmes of national importance relevant to the DAE mandate in one of the following advanced research centres of the Department:

A BRIEF NOTE ON BOARD OF RESEARCH IN NUCLEAR SCIENCES
Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS) is an advisory body to recommend financial assistance to
universities/institutions/laboratories with the objective to encourage and promote scientific research in areas of relevance to the mandate of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). BRNS plays a vital role in strengthening collaboration with educational institutions/universities to meet the scientific and the technological needs of the Department. Main mandate of DAE is the production of safe and economical nuclear power, using indigenous uranium and thorium resources. Towards this end, it is involved in developing, in stages, pressurized heavy water reactors, fast breeder reactors, and advanced thorium reactors with associated fuel cycle systems. It builds research reactors for production of radioisotopes and carries out programmes on isotope and radiation technology applications in medicine and agriculture and industry. It develops advanced technology in areas like accelerators, lasers, control and instrumentation, computers, biotechnology, information technology, materials technology, etc. and also encourages technology transfers to other users and industry. It supports basic research in nuclear energy and related frontier areas of science.
Who Can Apply?
(A) Minimum educational qualification and experience:
(i) For Engineers: Ph.D. degree in Engineering (those who have submitted thesis for Ph.D. may also
apply) or Master’s degree in Engineering (M.Tech./M.E./M.S.) with a minimum of 2-year R&D experience after obtaining M.Tech./M.E./M.S. degree.
(ii) For Scientists: Ph.D. degree in Science (Those who have submitted Ph.D. thesis may also apply).
All candidates must have a First Class at either Master’s or Bachelor’s level.
All candidates must provide a list of publications in support of their R&D experience.
(B) Nationality/age: Indian nationals who are not more than 32 years as on 1st January in the year of the
application. The age criterion is relaxable by 5 years for SC/ST candidates and 3 years for OBC candidates.
The SC/ST/OBC certificate should be as per the prescribed format.

Selection will be done by an interview committee (appointed by BRNS) from among the short-listed candidates based on their qualification, published R&D work and performance in the interview. The selected candidates would be appointed as KSKRA for an initial period of one year, which is extendable by one more year based on performance during the first year. KSKRAs would be paid a monthly stipend of Rs 20,000 (likely to be revised) + benefits. Those candidates who have submitted their Ph.D. thesis but are yet to receive their Ph.D. degree, if found suitable by the interview committee in view of their expertise and academic record, would be first designated as Research Associate (RA) and paid Rs 16,000 per month and only after completion of their Ph.D. and obtaining a provisional certificate, they would be designated as KSKRA and paid Rs 20,000 (likely to be revised) per month. For all other benefits, their date of joining as RA will be treated as the date of joining KSKRA Scheme. In addition Rs 10,000 per year will be paid as Educational Material Allowance. Associates will be provided hostel accommodation, medical and leave benefits during the Associateship.
Up to 20 KSKRAs can be selected every year. Anytime during the 2nd year of associateship, subject to satisfactory performance, the KSKRAs will be absorbed in one of the above given R&D units of DAE and appointed in the grade of Scientific Officer/Engineer-D/E.
Submission dates: The applicants who submit their applications by 1st March will be called for interview in June and those who submit their applications by 1st September will be called for interview in December of the same year.

The Program Advisory Committee on Atmospheric Sciences has recommended in view of the need to create wider interest among young scientists, that five SERC schools be held in different areas of Atmospheric and Space Sciences.
The conditions prevailing in the near space environment of our planet earth are influenced by the energy released from the Sun in a broad spectrum of electromagnetic radiations and particle emissions from the outer atmosphere of the Sun. “Space Weather” refers to conditions on the Sun, in interplanetary space and in geospace consisting of earth’s magnetosphere, ionosphere and thermosphere, that can influence the performance of space-borne and ground based technological systems, and can endanger human life or health. During the last three decades, advancements in technology have provided opportunities to probe the ionosphere, magnetosphere and the solar variability much more effectively. At present, understanding the highly complex nature of solar–terrestrial interaction processes is a challenging area in Space Sciences. In this context, the topics to be covered during the school on “SPACE WEATHER” would be apt for creating awareness among young researchers about the current status of research in all these areas, which go into the making of SPACE WEATHER.

(c) Hands-on experience with computer would be desirable.
(d) Grades obtained in the previous SERC Schools on topics relevant to this school, if attended by the applicant will have extra weightage for selection

Format of the Programme:
During the period of the visit, the student will work closely with at least one staff member of the Institute on a suitable project, or on a part of a project, as appropriate. The student's work and the interaction with the staff and the graduate students at the Institute are expected to provide her/him a flavour of the research pursuits at the Institute, in general, and a first-hand experience in research, in particular.
Who Can Apply?
Students within 1-2 years of their end of BSc., B.E. and M.Sc. students with the intention of pursuing research as a career are eligible to apply. Eligible students from Bangalore colleges, who are keen to utilize their week-ends and vacation periods for acquiring research experience at RRI, will also be considered.

What is this all about?
CCMB, a premier R&D Institute engaged in research in the areas of modern biology, is looking for a full-time Indian postdoctoral fellow with PhD in Genetics (preferably yeast) to work in the Laboratory of Prof. Olivier Gadal, Universite Paul-Sabatier, France, under an Indo-French Collaborative Project “Epigenetics of Transcription by RNA polymerase III” funded by IFCPAR.

Candidates should have a recent PhD in genetics, with a profile that combines molecular biology experience and cell biology research. He/she will contribute to the analysis of gene positioning in yeast. What is this all about?
Director, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, invites applications from candidates who are
bonafide Indian citizens and having consistently good academic record. Candidates should have
strong motivation to pursue research in modern biology leading to a Ph.D degree.
Who Can Apply?
Candidates who satisfy the following criteria only need apply:
1. Should have an M.Sc. degree in any area of biological/physical/chemical sciences
including mathematics and qualified in the CSIR-UGC (NET) examination for Junior Research
Fellowship. The Fellowship Certificate should be valid as on the date of joining. (Candidates
qualified only for Lecturership in CSIR-UGC (NET) examination need not apply.
2. Candidates qualified in ICMR-JRF examination under Life Sciences may apply.
Admission will be subject to their qualifying in the CCMB written test/interview and award of
Fellowship by ICMR.
3. Candidates qualified in DBT-JRF examination can also apply.
4. Engineering (B.E. & B.Tech.) or B.Pharm graduates with Biotechnology as a subject of
study and have qualified in GATE examination with a minimum of 85 percentile may
also apply for award of Research Fellowship subject to their qualifying in the written
test/interview and award of fellowship by CSIR. The GATE certificate should be valid as
on the date of joining.
5. Students with non-life sciences background (having master degree in
Mathematics/Statistics/Physics/Chemistry and B.Tech in Computer Sciences or other
Engineering discipline) are specifically encouraged to apply, if they have high desire and
motivation in doing interdisciplinary research in Life Sciences.
6. Students with MBBS with first division may also apply. Selected candidates should also
qualify/obtain the Senior Research Fellowship conducted by the Human Resource
Development Group, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, New Delhi, to pursue
PhD in CCMB.
Age
Upper age limit is 28 years as on 4.12.2009 which is relaxable by 5 years for

What is this all about?
Director, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, invites applications from candidates who are
bonafide Indian citizens and having consistently good academic record. Candidates should have
strong motivation to pursue research in modern biology leading to a Ph.D degree.
Who Can Apply?
Candidates who satisfy the following criteria only need apply:
1. Should have an M.Sc. degree in any area of biological/physical/chemical sciences
including mathematics and qualified in the CSIR-UGC (NET) examination for Junior Research
Fellowship. The Fellowship Certificate should be valid as on the date of joining. (Candidates
qualified only for Lecturership in CSIR-UGC (NET) examination need not apply.
2. Candidates qualified in ICMR-JRF examination under Life Sciences may apply.
Admission will be subject to their qualifying in the CCMB written test/interview and award of
Fellowship by ICMR.
3. Candidates qualified in DBT-JRF examination can also apply.
4. Engineering (B.E. & B.Tech.) or B.Pharm graduates with Biotechnology as a subject of
study and have qualified in GATE examination with a minimum of 85 percentile may
also apply for award of Research Fellowship subject to their qualifying in the written
test/interview and award of fellowship by CSIR. The GATE certificate should be valid as
on the date of joining.
5. Students with non-life sciences background (having master degree in
Mathematics/Statistics/Physics/Chemistry and B.Tech in Computer Sciences or other
Engineering discipline) are specifically encouraged to apply, if they have high desire and
motivation in doing interdisciplinary research in Life Sciences.
6. Students with MBBS with first division may also apply. Selected candidates should also
qualify/obtain the Senior Research Fellowship conducted by the Human Resource
Development Group, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, New Delhi, to pursue
PhD in CCMB.
Age
Upper age limit is 28 years as on 4.12.2009 which is relaxable by 5 years for
SC/ST/OBC/Women/Physically Handicapped candidates.

Written Test and Interview :
All the applications will be screened and candidates found suitable will be called for written test on 22.1.2010 at CCMB, Hyderabad. Candidates qualified in the written test will have to appear for interview on 23rd & 24th January , 2010. Candidates selected in the interview will have to stay for discussions on 25.1.2010 with Scientists at CCMB regarding allotment of projects for the Ph.D. programme. Traveling Allowance is not payable by CCMB and candidates have to make their own arrangements for stay, etc. at Hyderabad. Candidates who have qualified in CSIR-UGC NET Fellowship or ICMR-JRF or DBT-JRF can also walk in on the day of the written test (22nd January, 2010) at 7.30 AM in CCMB along with proof
of their qualification for the respective fellowship. They are requested to send an email intimating the same to COA, CCMB at coa@ccmb.res.in.

Summer fellowship at Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore, in association with Dept. of Science and Technology and Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, New Delhi
The Centre offers summer fellowships for two months to bright undergraduate and MSc students (renewable for a second year for selected students). This programme has proved to be popular and competitive; each year, about 5000 students from all over India apply for the 120 fellowships awarded. Fifty fellowships are supported by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, fifteen by the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies, New Delhi, and the rest by the Centre. Students are placed with research groups at the Centre or with scientists else where in India. They are paid travel expenses and a monthly stipend of Rs. 5000. Selected students get the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge research, and several summer projects have led to publications in leading journals. A random sample of projects pursued in past years is: Preparation of La0.5Sr0.5Co03 by Sol-Gel spin coating method; Study of correlated response to selection on faster development and early reproduction in Drosophila melanogaster; A study of the chaotic nature of flow in the neighborhood of vortices; Statistical analysis of fatal mining accidents in eight companies of Coal India Ltd. Many of the summer students of past years have gone on to pursue graduate studies and a research career, at the JNCASR or at another leading university.

Academic requirements: * Students who have secured not less than 80% (science and maths subjects only) in their 10th , 12th(10 +2) and not less than first class in graduation and post graduation(if applicable).
Only students presently studying in I and II year of B.Sc., I, II and III year of B.E / B.Tech. / B.V.Sc./ MBBS / B.Pharm., I year of M.Sc. and I - IV year of Integrated M.Sc with the above mentioned academic requirements should apply.

The students selected under this programme are placed with scientists at the Centre or elsewhere in India, for 2 months with a stipend of Rs. 5000 /- p.m and travel support as per Govt. of India norms.
