What is this all about?
IIST Ph.D. Programme – February 2010


Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Asia’s first Space University was established under the Department of Space, Govt. of India in September 2007. Research forms a significant part of the goals envisaged for this premier institute. The institute provides a vibrant research environment supported by highly qualified faculty members, excellent infrastructure and facilities and also shares the state-of-art facilities of ISRO. Through this Doctoral Programme, IIST aims to develop a pool of innovators and leaders for Space Science and Technology.

Applications are invited from highly motivated candidates for admission to the Ph.D. Programme starting in February 2010.

Who Can Apply?
Master’s degree in the relevant area with first class or equivalent. However, outstanding candidates with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with an excellent academic record and aptitude for research may be considered for direct admission to the Ph.D. Programme.

Area of Work/Research Areas:

Fellowship/Stipend/Salaray
1. IIST-Ph.D. Research Fellowship will be Rs. 35,000/- pm (all inclusive).
2. Ph.D. Scholars will be required to assist the Department in tutorials and related academic activity normally limited to 8 hours per week.

3. No tuition / registration fee will be payable by the Ph.D. candidates. However, the candidates will have to pay for the boarding / lodging, etc., wherever applicable.

4. The candidates will be required to execute a bond to serve ISRO / IIST for a minimum period of three years on successful completion of Ph.D. in a position appropriate for doctoral Degree holders.

Applications and Selection Procedures
1. Application form can be downloaded from IIST website 


2. Duly filled application form along with attested copies of documents mentioned in the application form should be sent to The Administrative Officer , IIST, VSSC Campus, ISRO Post, Thiruvananthapuram - 695022 with the superscription “Application for IIST Ph.D. Programme”

3. Application form should be accompanied by a fee of Rs. 250/- in the form of Demand Draft drawn in favour of The Registrar, IIST payable at SBI, Thiruvananthapuram

Selection...

1. Candidates will be short-listed based on Academic records and other relevant criteria like research experience, National Eligibility Tests, etc.


2. All short-listed candidates will be required to appear for a written test in their relevant areas (Aerospace Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering / Physics / Chemistry / Polymer Technology/ Mathematics / Atmospheric Sciences / Remote Sensing).

3. Written test of two hours duration will be conducted at IIST, Trivandrum during 3rd / 4th week of January 2010.

4. The written test will comprise of two parts – (a) Basic understanding of the subject (b) Ability in logical thinking and comprehension. The test may contain both descriptive and objective questions.

5. Qualified candidates will be required to appear for an interview the following day.

6. List of candidates eligible for written test and the dates of written test / interview will be displayed in IIST website by 8th January 2010.

7. Selected candidates will be intimated within a week of the final interview. Results will also be displayed in our website.

Submission deadline: 31st December 2009

Important Info: Outstation candidates will be paid to and fro sleeper class train fare by shortest route, or actual fare (whichever is lower) for attending the test / interview.
