PhD Admissions 2010
Centre for Liquid Crystal Research (CLCR) Jalahalli, Bangalore is an autonomous institute under the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The Centre, which currently focuses on liquid crystal materials and devices, aims to expand research interests to related areas in soft matter. The Centre has close collaborations with other research institutes, both within the country and abroad.
As a prime part of research activity, CLCR conducts doctoral programme and for the award of Ph.D. degree, it is affiliated to Mangalore University. The Centre invites applications for the Ph.D. admissions from motivated candidates willing to take up research in the above areas. Fellowship will be provided to students and they will be encouraged to participate in national workshops, symposia and conferences. Hostel accommodation is available for students.

- Candidates with a M.Sc. degree who have qualified the CSIR-UGC (NET), ICMR or DBT JRF examination, or those having a professional degree such as MBBS/MTech, plus a valid fellowship from CSIR/ICMR/DBT.
- Candidates must ensure that their fellowships are valid for at least 4 years from August 2010. Applications are invited in two streams - Plant Biology and Human Health.
- Applications will be made on plain paper, giving choice of the stream, personal and academic details, and will be attached with attested copies of degrees and marksheets, fellowship award letter and a crossed Demand Draft of Rs. 300/- (non-refundable), in favour of “ICGEB, New Delhi”, payable at New Delhi.

- Candidates who have completed or will be completing M.Sc. in life sciences (Agriculture/ Botany/ Chemistry / Biotechnology/ Bioscience/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Bioinformatics) with minimum 55 % marks and have cleared CSIR UGC NET Exam/ ICMR NET Exam / DBT JRF Exam or any other Exam leading to JRF/ SRF fellowship tenable at CIMAP (as on 03rd August, 2010) are eligible for selection under the programme to carry out advanced research in the area of Biotechnology/ Genomics/ Plant Tissue Culture/ Bioinformatics/ Plant Physiology/ Metabolomics/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Botany and Pharmacogonosy/ Natural Product/ Synthetic/ Analytical/ Process Chemistry/ Agronomy/ Soil Science/ Plant Nutrition/ Crop Improvement/ Crop Protection/ Agricultural Economics & Extension, etc.
- The selection will be made on the basis of interview only. The selected candidates will be enrolled for Ph.D Programme in academic affiliation with the Jawahar Lal Nehru University, New Delhi. Reservations are as per Government of India norms.
- The interview of short-listed candidates will be held on 02 and 03 August, 2010 and eligible candidate will be communicated about date and time of the interview by post. These students will have to complete Pre-Ph.D. courses in any one of the three sub-disciplines (Plant Sciences/Biotechnology and Bioinformatics/Chemical sciences) of their interest as the Core courses with optional courses, in two semesters spread over one year.
- On the successful completion of courses (OGPA 6.5/10 for general category and 6.0/10.0 for SC/ST/OBC) students will be eligible for registration as CIMAP-JNU Ph.D scholar under the supervision of CIMAP scientist available as guide to carry out research on a scientific topic covered under CIMAP’s mandate at CIMAP.
- A maximum of twenty four students may be admitted per academic year covering all the three sub disciplines mentioned above.
- Application should be typed on plain A-4 size paper in format given below. Application proforma can also be down loaded from our website.
- Completed application forms must be accompanied with a crossed Demand Draft for Rs.300/-(Rupees three hundred only) towards processing fee drawn in favour of Director, Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow. A Demand Draft of Rs. 100/- (one hundred only) is acceptable from SC/ST/OBC candidate provided relevant documentary proof is attached with the application. The processing fee is not refundable.
- Application should be accompanied by attested copies of certificates and mark sheets from Senior Secondary level onward.

choice. Separate merit list will be prepared in each of the above disciplines.
Tenure:
The selected JRFs will be eligible for a stipend and House Rent Allowance (HRA) as admissible under rules and a Contingency grant. On completion of two years, JRFs could be upgraded to Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) on assessment. The total tenure including the fellowship period shall not exceed 5 years.
Eligibility:
The candidate should have qualified the NET examination held in June 2009 & December, 2009
under CSIR/UGC category or should have valid award letter under the above or should have qualified
under DBT/ICMR JRF examination scheme or BioInformatics National Certification (BINC) Examination.

Eligibility
Age: Not more than 28 years on June 30, 2010 (Born on/after June 30, 1982)
Biological Sciences: 55% in Masters in any branches of Biology, life sciences and bioinformatics. Student with masters in any branches of natural or computer sciences with interest in pursuing career in biology
Chemical Sciences: 55% in M. Sc. Or equivalent degree in Chemistry, Physics, Applied Chemistry, Biochemistry, Material Science, any one of the subject.
Mathematical Sciences: 55% in M. Sc. or equivalent degree in Mathematics,Physical Sciences 55% in M. Sc. or equivalent degree in Physics/Chemistry/ Mathematical Physics or Master’s degree in Engineering.
Candidates should have qualified the CSIR-NET/GATE/JEST/NBHM or equivalent examination valid
for the current year in the relevant area of research. UGC-CSIR JRF qualified candidates can avail the fellowship directly from UGC or CSIR, whereas, students selected for Ph.D. program based on GATE/JEST scores, are eligible for financial aid (Assistantship / Scholarship) from NISER, Bhubaneswar on par with CSIR fellowship.

as it deems necessary and will have its own selection process. Based on the academic record and the performance of the candidates in the selection process, the selection committee of the school will recommend candidates to the Chairman, Academic Council for admission to the Ph.D. program.
