ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in any branch of science or undergraduate degree in any branch of engineering with demonstrated experience in Bioinformatics (those who have done projects in bioinformatics or had bioinformatics as the main subject in their postgraduate curriculum). Students who are awaiting final semester results may also apply. Preference will be given for students with proficiency in advanced sequence analysis and PERL programming.

What is this all about?
Short Term Studentship Program 2010 by The Indian Council of Medical Research.
On behalf of Dr VM Katoch, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research and Secretary, Department of Health Research, applications are invited from interested undergraduate medical students to participate in the STS 2010 Program.

About the Program
The Indian Council of Medical Research initiated the Short Term Studentship Program in 1979 in order to promote interest and aptitude for research among medical undergraduates. During the last 30 years, medical undergraduate students of various medical colleges in the country have shown keen interest in Council’s Short Term Research Studentship program. The Council has decided to continue this program by awarding limited number of studentships to deserving undergraduate students during the vacation for the year 2010.

Stipend
The value of the studentship will be Rs. 2500/- per month for 2 months’ duration and is meant to be a stipend for the student.

Selection and execution details
1.The selection of the candidates for award of research studentship will be done after technical evaluation of the research plan by a panel of experts. About 500 students will be selected.

2.The results will be displayed on ICMR website in April 2010.

3.No sanction letters will be issued individually to the students/ guide. The students should print out the results from the website for future reference. Upto 25 students may be selected from any medical college.

4. The selected student is expected to complete the project in any two given months between April and September 2010 and submit the report before the last date of submission. The detailed guidance on this will be available at the time the results are declared. The students will be awarded stipend and certificate only if their report is approved.

Submission deadline: Online Submission of Form will be made available from 15th January 2010 to 15th February, 2010
