IIT Student's thoughts about doing PhD in India!!!

A recent study was conducted by IIT Delhi on carrying out PhD as a career or higher education step in India.The survey revealed some very interesting facts .About 280 students from three IIT's(Delhi,Kanpur and Bombay) participated in the survey. In that more than 55 percent people opted Job as the best option. Also an average of 30 percent people agreed to the fact that PhD stipend should be increased to 20,000 rs.And an average of 40 % want their salary after completion of PhD to be more than 1,00,000 per month.

This survey really gives a glimpse about what exactly the elite student group from our countries prestigious institutes(IIT’s) think. Many students are genuinely willing to carry out PhD or Research in India , but they are searching for few important things in their choice.Like,

A decent Ph.D stipend
Good salary after completion
Foreign university collaborations and exchange or twining programs
Part time options for job holders
Quality of PhD work carried out which inturn deciedes in Indian PhD’s Market value
Duration of PhD( Outside India there is a possibility to complete a PhD in 3 years)
Inculcating the research seed during graduation and showing the opportunities involved.
Making India a better seat for education than other countries.

These are only a few points, but there are many other things that are to be considered by the Government, Universities, Scientific bodies and organization in preventing the huge loss in terms of intellect and brain drain from India.

We should also be a research super power and show the world our greatness.
